Wedding Wednesday - Mother of the Bride Fashion Tips

Hello! My favourite guest blogger is back for another Wedding Wednesday installment. This time, Rox is talking us through styling tips for those glamorous mothers of the bride. What did your mum wear for your wedding?

It is believed that the only moments of our life that we truly and vividly remember are the first day of school, graduation, wedding and a birth of a baby. The Wedding ceremony of your daughter will surely be one of the most memorable moments of your life. It is known that wedding preparations can be rather frustrating because we all want that everything works perfectly on that special day. If you are a mother of a bride, choosing appropriate clothing can be long and sometimes exhausting process due to endless fashion choices. Nevertheless, as a mother, you’ll have an important role in many special moments of the wedding which will inevitably put you in the centre of attention. That’s why it’s essential to dazzle everybody with your perfect outfit and still not to overshadow your dear daughter.

Choosing the right style

The first thing you need to consider is what your style is. There are various styles from traditional and classy to more modern and chic and a wide range of mother of the bride dresses to choose from. It's important for you to be flexible and consider many options before you choose the right one. It is perfectly acceptable to look festive without sacrificing your personal style. Don’t feel uncomfortable to show off your figure but pay attention not to go over the top. If you choose a more classical style then go for a formal gown, and if you want to be more trendy and stylish choose short dresses or skirt-and-jacket ensemble. Finally, your daughter's wedding is probably a once in a lifetime experience so choose the one that you will feel most comfortable in. The most important thing when choosing the style of your outfit is matching it with the venue. You can’t wear heavy garments to beach weddings, and it isn't advisable to wear high heels if your daughter is getting married in a barn.

According to convention, colours such as white, champagne, ivory and red are to be avoided on such occasions as weddings. However, gone are the days when these rules were obeyed and now we can see women looking a million dollars in one of those color combinations. You can choose an outfit that will match the color palette of the party, or if you are having doubts, it is always advisable to consult your daughter and avoid worrying about it. There is a wide array of beautiful shades of colors you can choose from such as metallic or jewel tones, cobalt blue or natural earthy colors. You won’t make a mistake if you choose any of these, but avoid wearing the same color as the bride’s dress because it’s your daughter’s time to shine.

Adding Appropriate Accessories

Adding accessories is an imperative if you want to add some glamour to your outfit. A small classy clutch, big enough to put a make- up and some small necessary things should be on your list. Do not buy statement jewelry as it is pretty outdated. If you want to accentuate your neck, wear a big necklace, but choose small classy earrings to complement the necklace. Naturally, this combination would perfectly go with a plain and simple outfit. Moreover, do not forget to bring spare shoes with you, either high heels or comfortable ballerinas as you will be on your feet all day. Finally, be careful not to over accessorize. According to many stylists, it is always advisable to stay simple and classy on such glamorous events like a wedding party.

Important logistics

For such important events as a wedding ceremony, there are many factors that need to be taken into consideration such as the venue, the time of the year, the season and the weather conditions for that particular day. This dictates your appropriate outfit. If the wedding is a classy, black-tie wedding you should opt for a classier style. If it is a bohemian affair wedding, you should wear something more casual but trendy. Also, it’s always a good idea to bring either a trench coat or a chic shawl in case the weather worsens, or if you need to attend a religious ceremony which requires a particular dress code.
