Fired up about- Skinny Shaming

Now, friends.. do you know what makes me soooo mad?

Skinny shaming!!

I meant to write this post ages ago but then something happened on Saturday and it further reminded me how angry it makes me!! Do you watch X Factor?

Well in case you don't Fleur performed Meghan Trainor's "All about the Bass" and I made the mistake of reading Facebook comments, here was on of the ones that riled me:

"sang it good but should NOT have sand it, meant to be sand by someone who is not a skinny minnie."

I mean, lets not even get started on that grammar and also.. I'm sorry? I didn't realise they were only allowed to sing songs directly applied to their lives!

But what bugs me is its made out to be a bad thing.. that you shouldn't be body confident or sing a song about body confidence if you're skinny. Not just that but Fleur's body is INCREDIBLE!! You can definitely tell she works hard to look like that- and fair play to her, I hope my gym commitments pay off like hers!

If a fat person sung a song about being skinny (I can't actually think of a song right now!) would it be ok to make comments like that? No. It would cause cries of discrimination and prejudice! Why then is it ok to say that about someone because they're slim?

Up until recently I was anywhere between a UK size 6-10 depending on where I shopped, when I was a little younger I was a really tiny size 4.

People used to say awful things, to quote a few:

"You must be anorexic"- Sorry, pardon? 1) if I was that's insensitive. 2) Anorexia is a very serious illness.

"Just eat a pie or something" - I actually used to eat loads, I just had a quick metabolism.

"Guys prefer women with a bit of meat anyway" - Oh well, if that's what they prefer that's all I should aspire for right? Also, how two dimensional is that? Guys only prefer one body type!!!

I am choosing to lose some weight not for the sake of guys or even so Andy will fancy me more! But because I want to feel better about myself.

At risk of sounding like a mean girls speech it's time we stopped putting each other down just for the sake of it, because they're different to how we look or whatever.

Every inch of you is perfect from the bottom to the top...

P.s My friend Jess also wrote a skinny shaming blog post this week. Check it out here
