Christmas Traditions

Hello Lovelies

How was your Christmas? Do you have any Christmas traditions?

We have some as a family: namely watching Love Actually, eating cheese and potato pie on Christmas eve and then midnight service at church or having a specific present to open at the table on Christmas day. But this year, my first with Andy and my first waking up in Chester I knew we needed to make new traditions that we could recreate every year for the rest of our lives together (ahhhhhhh!)

So, on Christmas Eve we had a lie in and a yummy breakfast (salmon, scrambled eggs, bagels, mushrooms. Yum!) and then we headed to Chester Zoo. I'm not sure if the Zoo will become a tradition in itself but we had such a good time. Then we came back and the first traditions begun: I handed Andy a present which contained Christmas Onesies and films (Elf and The Nativity) and told him that every Christmas Eve we need to watch Christmas films and wear Christmas Jammies (yes, our life is a Pinterest board!) it also meant I got to open one present (that fact I'd made it all the way to Christmas Eve without opening one is a Christmas Miracle in itself!!).

Then another tradition: a Chinese takeaway for Christmas Eve dinner. At this point I realised Slimming World was going out the window for the festive period!!

We were really lucky to be invited to a drinks party that evening so we spent the evening before Midnight service (where I performed as Juliet.. as in Romeo and Juliet, the traditional Christmas story!!) - slight confession.. we didn't make it through the entire service before bailing!!

In the morning I woke Andy up by shouting CHRISTMASSSSSSS! and we opened our stockings (another tradition which we didn't manage to keep secret from each other!)

So that was our traditions. Our Christmas was wonderful.. we spent it with three families in total and I was totally spoilt! I'm not sure we'll ever travel on Christmas day again... although the journey took a lot less time than usual but it was worth it to spend the morning with Andy's family and the evening with one half of my family.

So now tell me, what are your traditions?

Slimming World- Week 1

Hi Lovelies

How are you?

You might remember that I mentioned in my December goals post that I joined Slimming World on Monday 8th December. As well as going to group, and keeping my mum updated- I figured I'd stay accountable by blogging my Slimming World journey.

So on Monday I nervously turned up at the group - which is about a 1 minute walk from our house and was greeted very warmly by some members. I got given my pack and the new member talk where they go through how the plan works then I stayed for "Image Therapy" where everyone goes through their week, and talks a bit about how they've been doing, challenges etc. I came away feeling really excited and ready for the week.

I'm on the extra easy plan which in essence works like this: you fill up on superfree (most fruits and veg) and free (pasta, rice, pulses, starchy veg etc.) and then each day you also get a Health "A" extra (calcium: milk or cheese- two guesses as to which I go for EVERY day!*) and Healthy "B" extra (bread, cereal, a few other options) and then everything additional and else has a "syn" value and you can have between 5-15 syns per day. Phew! Sounds complicated, but my consultant, Lucy explains it a lot better than me!!

The thing I was mostly excited about is that it doesn't really cut out all that much: I love pasta and carbs and I can still have them!

So I went in to this week all powered up, syn counting (I download the app so I could track syns on the go) and had a couple of really good days. I was meal planning and we've started cooking properly again every night instead of the odd ready meal or takeaway.

Then I began to see the challenge of joining slimming world during the festive period: socialising! But, I quickly realised I was making better choices each and every day: turning down a mince pie, opting out of pilau rice with my curry etc.

So by the end of week one I was feeling pretty good and not that nervous for weigh in. I'd beat myself up a bit on a couple of days but in general, I felt happy.. I figured I'd maybe lost 2 or 3lbs. So I was over the moon when I stepped on the scales and saw I'd lost... 5lbs!!!!! Eeeeek. I was grinning like a Cheshire cat for the rest of the night.

The thing is, even if I hadn't lost any or I'd gained everyone at group is so supportive and lovely, I don't think I'd feel bad. But.. I'm not going to pretend I'm not over the moon with a great loss in my first week!

The next few weeks are centered around food and socialising, so I'm aiming for a minimal loss or hopefully not a gain and then I'll be back on properly in the New Year! Just 20 more pounds to go!

Wedding Wednesday- Our Venue

Morning Lovelies

Blogging three days on the trot, I must be back in the swings of things!

So.. a week last Saturday we headed out alongside my sister & bridesmaid, Samantha to look at three possible wedding venues. By the end of the first one, I was in love.. by the end of all three I knew exactly which was right for us.

I'll give you a clue it wasn't the one that said "Ah, December 30th... well I suppose the Christmas tree will be here then.. it might look a bit brown" Ermm pardon?

We are getting married & celebrating afterwards at.... Talbot Heath School.

First of all, who can turn down the longest aisle in Bournemouth? But there's so much more, the school itself is gorgeous with loads of lovely features and set in the most beautiful grounds, including ornamental ponds (squee) and forests. Also, the wedding planners, Bellissimo who are linked with the venue are just.. Amazing. Melanie, Director and Senior planner is my new BFF (ok, she doesn't know that yet!) and she also had a December wedding. I think when someone is passionate about their job it shows!

Oh.. Did I mention the date? Yes... 30th December 2015. eeeeeeek!

It is a secular venue so we're having the legal ceremony followed by a very special religious blessing which couldn't be more perfect and then much celebrating!

I'm hoping to share some pictures on here soon (lack of organisation on my part but I wanted to share this exciting news regardless) in the mean time check out their facebook and website.

Beautiful, right?

Where did you get married?

December Goals

Hello Lovelies, How are you?

Is it too late for a goals post? Oh well.

Here were my goals for November:

 1. Lose a stone - I can't say I managed this! I didn't actually weigh myself at any point but I wasn't very disciplined at all in November but December is a new month and I am totally motivated by wedding dress shopping. In fact, I joined slimming world last night so watch this space for updates!

2. Blog every day- well, I mean.. that didn't happen at all now did it? Oh well...

3. Book a wedding venue -  YES! and it's perfect.. all will be revealed, tomorrow!!

4. Finish two books- I finished Blog Inc (and found it very useful again) but haven't quite finished "Build a Business from your Kitchen table" by Sophie Cornish & Holly Tucker.

Oh.. and I also said I'd have finished by Christmas shopping by December 1st and I am very smug that we were finished by mid November! I've since decided to get a few surprises for Andy because it's our first Christmas together. But otherwise we are all shopped, wrapped and the tree went up on Saturday!

So what about December?

1. Join slimming world- & make goals from there. This will probably be a whole separate post altogether once I've got goals in mind!

That's it really... haha! December is meant to be chilled and full of family and friends. We have a lot of festive plans including Manchester Christmas market, two work Christmas parties and we're visiting Chester zoo on Christmas eve.

What are your goals for December?

Monday, 8 December 2014

And I go back to blog...

I'm backkkkkkkkk. Hello- how are you? Tell me everything that's new with you.

I last blogged properly (not my "I'm taking a break" post) over a month ago, here's what I've learnt from taking a break:

1. Bloggers guilt is real- the whole time I wasn't blogging I was thinking of blogging and wondering if I should be blogging and if anyone would read my blog next time I came back- so if you are reading, hello and thanks!

2. You can take the blog away from the girl but you can't take the girl away from the blog- or something! I've been thinking of posts and all things blog even whilst I was away.

3. Being away from a laptop is great- Part of the reason I took a break was because after a day sat in front of a screen I just didn't feel like turning my laptop on again.

4. Blogging is a bit of a bubble- I've read a few blogs whilst I've not been writing but for the most part I've stayed away from a lot of it, and I've quite enjoyed that! I love the blogging community but a break is nice.

5. The real world is fun- I've been enjoying life whilst not thinking "this would be good to blog about"- my life wasn't controlled by blogging, obviously and please don't think I don't enjoy blogging because I do I LOVE it but it was nice to have a break.

Have you taken a blogging break before? what did you learn?

Must we move on.. what's new with you?

Loads has happened recently:

  • we've had our mortgage accepted (and the news about stamp duty has made our week!) and now its just a waiting game.. our estate agent isn't exactly being forthcoming with ANY information (In that we phone and phone and phone and he doesn't reply!!) but it looks like we'll be moving in late January.
  • We've booked our venue- I'm going to do a whole wedding update post but lots of exciting wedding things are happening- we have a venue, a date (all will be revealed on Wednesday) anddddd my beautiful bridesmaids have their dresses.
What was your November like? and what are your plans for December?

Blogging Break

Hi Lovelies

You may have noticed it's been a bit quiet here at Twentea Something. I said at the start of November that I would be posting every day.. and then it got to day three and I realised I just wasn't feeling motivated, you know?

So I figured I'd just wait until I did feel motivated.. and it just didn't! So I apologise for it being a bit quiet here, I expect things are going to perk up soon! Have you ever had a bloggers writers block?

I just decided, as time went on that there wasn't any point in pushing it because I knew that would reflect in my writing- that it would come across as forced and not passionate and I only ever want to write if I'm passionate and because I love my blog, which I do!

In the meantime, I've been enjoying keeping my laptop off after work, reading a few blogs and drafting a few post ideas in my head which haven't paid it to "paper" yet. So, it's not really a break.. it's just a... quiet spell!

So, anyway.. this is a quick "sorry, not sorry" for the general quietness around here and a promise that as soon as I'm back, you'll know about it!

Now tell me... what's up with you?

This Weekend we Went To... Mockingbird Taproom

I have three words for you: Bloody Mary Buffet!!
and one more word: Brunch!

I'm a sucker for a new place opening up in town so was pretty excited to try out Mockingbird Taproom which opened in Chester three weeks ago. I've already been super impressed with their facebook presence which is how I found out about them in the first place. Plus I love brunch!

So we headed down on Saturday to check it out. Apparently, it used to be the Fat Cat (for those who know Chester) and is off the main stretch of town on Linnenhall Lane.

Overall, the experience was really good.

The Bloody Mary Buffet is definitely the unique selling point of the venue (available Saturdays and Sundays) but there's also a lot going on in terms of food, entertainment and drinks.

We both made up our own Bloody Mary's. Mine: double vodka, tomato juice, chilli sauce, ice, and a celery stick, herbs & pickled onion garnish.
Andy: Quad spice rum (he didn't taste the first double because he didn't stir!!), tomato juice, tobasco sauce, ice. What is your best Bloody Mary recipe?

Mocking Bird Taproom

Mockingbird Taptroom

I quickly realised I didn't actually like tomato juice which isn't a huge surprise because I hate tomatos. But the experience was fun! I think someone should open a daiquiri buffet or something!

We also ordered food- the feel of Mockingbird Taproom is meant to be "Pan-Gulf" so Southern America/Mexico and I could definitely see some deep south influences (I was going to be difficult to impress after my Kentuckian adventure!). I ordered biscuits, mushrooms & spinach- which comes with a poached egg & hollondaise (my favourite) and Andy ordered the Full Gulf Breakfast. Actually getting the food took a while, especially given that it was relatively quiet. But I can always excuse a new place for a few teething problems.

Plus, I was kept entertained by this slightly awkward twitter exchange!

The food, though! Mannnn I have missed biscuits! My brunch was so yummy and filling! Andy loved his Full Gulf Breakfast- in fact, I think he wanted to take my ring and propose to the sausages- honestly, he was too full to finish them (perils of saving the best until last) but he said they were the best sausages he'd ever had!

Pan-Gulf

Brunch

The service was attentive throughout although I felt a bit sorry for the poor girl serving us she seemed a bit nervous! The atmosphere was lovely and the lunch and dinner menus both look amazing. I also want to visit for their champagne table and soul nights!

Definitely worth a visit and I'm always super impressed by any company who is active on social media!

What did you get up to this weekend?

Degustabox*- September Box

Hello Lovelies

Day 2 of #BEDN and this is a post I meant to post ages ago but then I got lazy.. sorry!

So for the second month I got a Degustabox.. a surprise box of food sent straight to your door (or work in my case- my colleagues were ridiculously excited!)

So what did I get and what did I think?

Burt's Lentil Waves- Soooo good!! I thought these would be weird but they tasted amazing and were ridiculous moreish. They also had on the packet who made them, nice touch!

Jordan's Simply Granola- Amazing! I've been having this each morning with banana, greek yoghurt & sunflower seeds. I'd definitely buy this again.

Pick up! Milk Chocolate & Pick up! Black N White- These were a massive hit at work. I love white chocolate so the Black N White which was milk chocolate biscuit with a white chocolate filling. Yummy.

Crabbies - I love Crabbies. The card which came within the box said that these particular bottles contained no ginger but I definitely had a raspberry and ginger. Which I don't mind.. it was good!

Carnation Cook with it! Milk - This is not something I'd buy myself but it was great for this Chicken curry recipe instead of yoghurt!

Elizabeth Shaw mint thins- Again, a hugeeee hit in the office. Like mini, crunchy topped after eight mints. Would make excellent presents at Christmas!

La Vieja Fabrica Marmalade - I don't actually like marmalade.. but Andy's mum said she would be most likely to buy this particular brand because it doesn't contain any nasty extras! Excellent!

Little Miracles organic tea & fruit juice- I've been buying the cherry and green tea juice before I got this box and so was super excited that they were in the box! Yummy and healthy!

I've read a few other blog reviews and they also got salad dressings which I'm kind of gutted I didn't get because.. I'm eating salads most days and I love trying new dressings!

Have you tried Degustabox?

Want to give it a go? Enter: WMCMV when registering for a £3.00 discount.

*Products marked with an asterix have been kindly sent to be for review- but I will never review anything which I don't think is relevant to my blog and I will always be 100% honest.

November Goals

Fireworks

Hello lovelies

Blogger cliche of the week: how is it November already??

So, how was your October? Did you achieve everything you wanted to? Here's how I did:

Make October the BEST Month yet- Attend all personal training sessions (for me these are check in phone calls)
- Exercise five time a week
- Give up alcohol for the month
-Make healthy changes to diet/follow a healthy food plan (Becky is working on mine)
-Attend our workshop next week/watch the videos online

I actually didn't achieve this hardly at all! I started off strong and then I went away for the weekend and wine was drunk and food was constantly offered and I wasn't near the gym so I definitely lost my motivation. I'm definitely wanting to get back on this during November.

Sort my sock drawer out

Hahahaaa! I DID manage this.. Andy is really grateful!! We actually bought a flat last week and we move in in January so a lot more sorting needs to happen before then!

Actually organise those "we have to do something soon moments"

Yes!! I met up with a friend who's recently come back to Chester and we hadn't seen each other for about 18 months and another friend who I haven't seen at all this year which is good going hey? I've actually had quite a social month which I've loved!

Buy at least half of my Christmas presents

I think I'm nearly halfway there!! Money seemed to be tighter this month but I managed to get a few of the bigger ones ticked off and I have pretty good ideas for what else I need to get. I'm hoping to be done by December 1st! Is it too early for Christmas gift guide posts??

Plan an Autumnal date

Ohhhh. How did I forget about this? I definitely want to get this ticked off in November.. that's still Autumnal right?

So.. apart from basically needing to do some of the things on the above list again!! What else have I got planned for November?

1. Lose a stone - I think if I'm really disciplined this will be possible and then I'll be nearly at my target weight. It's not just that though.. I want to be toned and fitted and just happier. I'm a bit gutted I'm not quite at this point for my graduation on Thursday!

2. Blog every day- Remember last year when I did #BEDN? Yeaaaa I've decided I'm going to do that again! It's not an officially organised one but I'm hoping I can manage it.. until today I've not blogged for over ten days so it's definitely going to mean some focusing!

3. Book a wedding venue -  we're hoping to visit venues at the end of the month so hopefully by the start of December we'll have a venue and a date. Eeeeeek.

4. Finish two books- I'm currently reading Blog Inc. for Smart twenties book club & I'm also reading "Build a Business from your Kitchen table" by Sophie Cornish & Holly Tucker. I'm loving them both and learning a lot.

What about you? What have you got planned for November?

Wedding Wednesday- We're Engaged!!!

Ok.. So for some of you this might not be news but just in case you missed the memo..

We're Engaged!!!!!!!!

Please indulge me whilst I tell you allll about it!

First thing you need to know, I'm impossible to keep a secret from! Andy and I had been talking about getting engaged pretty much since day one and me and my stepmum had to engineer him having some time with my dad to ask his permission, so I knew it was coming!

He told me a few weeks ago we were going for a posh meal with his Uncle & Auntie for his mum's birthday which got me a bit suspicious so I kept trying to trip him up! Up until Thursday I was utterly convinced he was going to propose and then I started second guessing myself.

On the drive he tells me his Uncle told him to bring a present for his mum to open at the meal (which seems an odd request given we live with her and we'll see her on her birthday!). He told me he'd bought the Great British Bake Off book and it had a really obvious spelling mistake- bear with.. there's a reason for this!

Anyway we arrive at the beautiful Willington Hall Hotel which is set in the most beautiful gardens. We're really early for our meal so I suggested a little wander around. As we're walking toward a bench (me hobbling.. heels and shingle doesn't work, hey ladies?) Andy suddenly remembers he forgot the book and apparently HAD to get it right away!

He hands me the book and tells me to look for the mistake.. five pages in there's a letter from him which continues in the next page (by this point I'm crying) and then it says "My girl behind the red door" (a One Tree Hill reference) and the next page is a red door which opens to reveal the pages are carved out and inside is my beautiful ring. Which has takes off me and gets down on one knee with it... *sigh*

Honestly, I don't know what he said or how he actually asked.. I completely zoned out and was just so emotional. I wanted to say yes and put my ring on!

Obviously I said yes and my beautiful ring: palladium with two diamonds and an amethyst is on my finger when he tells me we're staying at the hotel and my stuff is in the car. Eeeek. As it turned out we were staying in the FOUR POSTER ROOM. I felt like the lady of the manor. & Andy bought me new PJs to wear because apparently I once told him i'd want that if we stayed in a hotel after he proposed (I honestly don't remember saying that.. he's incredible!)

Then the mammoth task of ringing my huge family and a few friends to tell them (I had next to no Wifi or signal and low battery). Cue lots of screaming and celebrations as we sipped champagne (and a guest complained to her friends about "young people always on their phones"). I basically told EVERYONE I spoke to at the hotel and also just stared at my left hand the whole night.

I am unbelievably happy. I honestly can't believe how much my life has changed in the last 10 months! I would also like to say a huge thanks to our friends and families for their lovely messages, tweets, comments and phone calls. We're feeling very loved!

No firm wedding plans as yet, but I'll keep you posted!

Blog Chat Tuesday- Becky Lees

Good Morning, Beauties. How are we?

It's that time of the week again, so flick the kettle on and get comfortable as I catch up with another fellow blogger.

This week I'm chatting with the beautiful, smart and super hard working: Becky Lees

1. Can you tell me a bit about yourself?

My name is Becky Lees, 23 years old, postgraduate student and work at the University of Chester. When I am not working 9-5, or studying you can usually find me hidden in the coves of a coffee shop with my kindle or a book fresh from Waterstones, deep in thought, despair or laughter (Depending on the book I am reading).

2. Can you tell me a little about your blog? (i.e. whats it about, how did it get started etc?)

My blog is an eclectic mix of posts previously used for work at Chester Students’ Union such as Mental Health and You, conference speeches and information for students. As well as assessment for my MA such as Benefit Street: An ethical minefield? And Is the Sun about to set on page 3? And finally there are also personal reflections on my passions in life which are; my family, education and community work.

3. What's your favourite thing about blogging?

Reflection. Exploration. Discussion. Discovery. Creativity. Community.

4. What's your least favourite thing?

I often set out to write a ‘short’ straight to the point blog about a particular issue, 3 days and 3,000 words later I have finally made my point!

5. If you could write any other type of blog what would it be?

A blog where I was paid to travel the world and reflect upon the adventures.

6. Do you have any blogs that you'd recommend?

The brilliant Laura’s blog of course! Twentea Something *she's the sweetest!!!*

7. What three things would you say to wannabe bloggers?

Do it – what have you got to lose (apart from perhaps, an acrylic nail if you are really getting into it!)

Say what you think and be what you say – Do not be scared of using your voice to make a change.

Don’t do it for the likes, shares and money; do it for the love and the other things will come.

Don’t be a keyboard warrior – be open minded to other people’s views – you never know, you may

learn something!

Don’t be afraid of blogging about subjects you are not entirely swotted up on! To know allows you to

grow.

8. Anything else you'd like to add.

Keep in mind that your online footprint will be part of your past, present and future so tread carefully.

Thank you so much for joining me, Becky! Especially at a very busy university time! I love the phrase "keyboard Warrior" and the reminder to be careful about our online footprint!

What advice would you give to wannabe bloggers?

Scenes from Suffolk

Hello beautiful.

How are you?

Remember how last weekend I visited family in Suffolk I thought I'd share some pictures from a lovely, relaxing weekend.

How cute is my Auntie and Uncle's puppy? Honestly, he's a puppy!! His name is Bailey and its like hanging out with a cuddle polar bear!

I completely love this blanket cloak from new look it super, super snuggly. I think I'll be wearing this a lot over the Autumn/Winter. Also, thank goodness for Instagram filters!

Have you tried Costa's spiced apple? it's amazing!!! Like Christmas in a glass mug. With cinamon and star anise. Seriously, go buy some!

How beautiful is Felixstowe? Have you ever visited? It was a particularly beautiful blustery, bright morning and we went for a lovely walk along the promenade which definitely blew away the cobwebs! I miss living by the beach alll the time!

So I also had a very exciting weekend this weekend (see twitter for details) but that's a post saved for Wednesday. How was your weekend?

Fired up about- Skinny Shaming

Now, friends.. do you know what makes me soooo mad?

Skinny shaming!!

I meant to write this post ages ago but then something happened on Saturday and it further reminded me how angry it makes me!! Do you watch X Factor?

Well in case you don't Fleur performed Meghan Trainor's "All about the Bass" and I made the mistake of reading Facebook comments, here was on of the ones that riled me:

"sang it good but should NOT have sand it, meant to be sand by someone who is not a skinny minnie."

I mean, lets not even get started on that grammar and also.. I'm sorry? I didn't realise they were only allowed to sing songs directly applied to their lives!

Review: One Six Eight Fitness*

Hello Lovelies

In an effort to lose weight and get healthy I was very excited to be asked to review OneSixEight Fitness in return for a months subscription to the service. The first thing I loved was the colour choices, very similar to Twentea Something so I knew the company must have taste!!

I talked a little bit about the OneSixEight Fitness in my October Goals but here's some more info:

OneSixEight Fitness is an online personal training company designed specifically for those who don't currently exercise or who have reached a plateau in their exercise regime

I definitely fell in the first group. I have never been a huge exercise fan and avoided it as much as possible, scoffing at those who run for fun (sorry!) But with my body changing I knew that I needed to make better lifestyle choices too. Enter Becky!

Becky Bounce is just about the perfect name for this girl. From our initial phone call where we talked about my lifestyle and goals her enthusiasm was infectious and motivating. Honestly, I would almost move to Loughborough (where is Loughborough?) if it meant having a personal trainer like Becky. I was so motivated I even signed up to the gym! Also, it reminded me how amazing people who set their own companies up are and gave me a little inspiration, but more on that another time!

Right Here, Right Now Vol 2.

Hello

I'm linking up again with Jenna from Dearest Love & Jenna from A Mamma Collective for their coffee date. So what better excuse for a good ole catch up? I'll put the kettle on, how do you take your tea?

So where am I at?

Highs:

Work is going well - I know I've said previously its not what I expected to be doing following university but I am enjoying it, the people are lovely and I'm learning a lot. I'm also taking on extra responsibilities which I am loving and is going really well.

I'm also about to start working for a brand new youth club at the start of November and the preparation for that is very exciting.

Living with Andy- Gahhh I absolutely love just being with Andy, knowing I'm coming home to him every night & that I'll be waking up with him in the morning. Doing life with him is excellent and I'm excited that this is just the start of our life together.

My weekend plans-  This weekend I'm headed 4 hours east to visit family. I'm going to be spending the weekend with my gorgeous twin sister, my uncle & auntie, my cousin & his wife and their gorgeous daughters (our goddaughters). It will be a lovely opportunity for a bit of r&r and it's always great to spend time with family.

I'm wandering back to God-  Remember my post from the other week? I've put a lot of effort in, I'm reading a very inspiration reading plan and also have a super gorgeous new bible. I've also joined a home group and I think surrounding myself with people to be accountable to is excellent.

Lows:

I've really been battling depression and anxiety this week. I was very aware of the warning signs for the past few weeks and then I had a very difficult few days, working very hard. Then living with Andy's mum became even more difficult and it became clear we might have to move a lot sooner. It has put an immense amount of strain on me and our relationship.

We would really appreciate your prayers at this time.

But tell me about you, what's going on with you?

Blog Chat Tuesday- Tea Party Beauty

Ooooh. Beauties.. we're not just meeting for a cuppa this Blog Chat Tuesday we're having a tea party!!! So grab a tea pot and a couple of nice finger sandwiches and come join me as I chat to the gorgeous, Hayley from Tea Party Beauty

1. Can you tell me a bit about yourself?

Hello, my name is Hayley and I blog over at teapartybeauty.com - a blog all about beauty and a little lifestyle thrown in too. I am nearing the grand old age of 30 so my blog is aimed more towards people in their late teens onwards. I work in an office by day and blog across three blogs by night.

2. Can you tell me a little about your blog? (i.e. whats it about, how did it get started etc?)
My blog is mainly beauty based with the odd lifestyle post thrown in, I have blogged about my troublesome dating in the past along with Wittering Wednesdays, where I just have a little rant. I started blogging as I was studying for my TEFL (Teach English as a Foreign Language) course and thought it would be a great way to help my writing, spelling and grammar. I guess I kind of fell in love with blogging and haven't left since. I have been blogging around 18 months now; 18 months full of fun, tears, achievements and stress - but I wouldn't change it.

3. What's your favourite thing about blogging?

I would have to say the ability to write and say what I want, when I want and have control over my little corner of the internet, and have people like it.

4. What's your least favourite thing?
My least favourite is also one of my favourites too - strange huh? The community. On one hand they are mainly the most amazing people you can find, but sometimes I just want to tape their mouths up :) A large group of strong, independent and opinionated woman is both a blessing and a curse. But again, I wouldn't change anything about them.

5. If you could write any other type of blog what would it be?
I think it would be a a more current affairs blog. I love reading and writing about things happening in the news, but a beauty blog is not always the place for serious posts about the current sanctions on Russia.

6. Do you have any blogs that you'd recommend?
So so so so many. I am going to feel terrible if I miss any out now so I will stick to 3.

7. What three things would you say to wannabe bloggers?
Those tip posts you see? Ignore them - do what you want, how you want and when you want. Blogging by someone else's rules will never be much fun.

Take things with a pinch of salt and a barrel of laughs. Blogging is fun so let it stay that way by not getting down about it.

Join in as much as you can.

8. Anything else you'd like to add.

UUmmmmmhhhh - thank you for having me on your lovely blog :) It's always nice to get off my own blog and get out.

Thank you, Hayley for joining me and your fab tips. I can't wait to read some new blogs! I hope you're having a FABBBB holiday (Hayley will actually be reading this post from a hotel reception, us? jealous? Noooo)

P.s. Hayley is running a HUGEEEEE giveaway to celebrate her 2000 bloglovin' followers (mind blown). You have a couple more days to enter: Here

Money Talks Monday- October

Hello Lovelies

I completely forgot about Money Monday in September I think because of the rebrand! But itsss back!! Yey!

Soooo what's the deal?

Credit card- £1373.34/£1600

Well... I have moved my £1600 on to a 0% interest credit card. Which seemed like a very sensible idea. However, I've realised how easy it would be to get into more debt like this! My new card has a £4000 credit limit with 0% for 34 months or something crazy.... wouldn't it be SO easy to just rack that up? Mental! Butttt... I'm being good and I've managed to clear an extra £250 off this month which I'm really happy with.

I'm hoping to clear my credit card as quickly as possible especially as we'll be applying for a mortgage sooner.

Overdraft- £300/£1500

I've gradually been aiming to move at least £150 a month in to my savings account so when the full £1500 (or more) is in there I can pay my overdraft in one hit otherwise I know I'll be tempted to dip in to it or just not keep track!

October Budget

Paid: £833

£150- Credit Card
£150- Overdraft

£100- Rent
£50- Phone
£80- Petrol
£32 - Gym
£60- Food

Total spend: £622

I also need to buy: Christmas presents, a graduation dress (potentially- I may just use one I already have), Andy's mums birthday present.

The good news? I just received a £250 cheque from the tax man. Hooray!! Potentially this will go towards both overdraft, credit card and a little towards Christmas.. but it might go towards a deposit as we may be moving out and renting a little sooner than expected!

I was also able to cancel some phone insurance I've been paying mistakenly for about two years!! So that's a nice saving of £10 a month.

The bad news? I rung 02 and asked them to lower my tariff and was given a resounding no! BUTTTT apparently if you have a family member who works for the NHS you can use their discount. Thanks, twin sis!

and finally... I still reallllyyyyy need to work on not giving in to impulse buys.. since pdayday on Thursday I've bought: a blanket cloak (I did have a £10 voucher), a new bible and worship CD, two belts and a pair of jeans. OOPS!
